Furry Beast

A huge fall fashion trend on the runways this year is shearling!

And it has trickled over into home decor.

Just in time for cool fall night snuggling.

It adds warmth, texture, comfort and color to any decor.

Shearling is found on pillows, throws, rugs, chairs, you name it! It comes in lots of colors!

Ikea has faux sheepskin and I found an Etsy shop Taftyli that sells real sheepskin.

Don’t you love this trend? I do!

Kitchen Idol

Sorry for the lack of posts…I’ve been on vacation and then back to the reality we all call work.

To say Emily Henderson is one of my design idols is an understatement!

She is a genius at mixing high/low, vintage/new and making it look incredible.

She recently bought a mid-century inspired gem in L.A. that needed a LOT of love and she has been chronicling the redo on her self named blog.

I was dying to see what she would do with the kitchen, since she is a big time

HGTV designer and blogger.

Well….the picture above is the first incarnation she did for Domino magazine!

In the picture above she left the bottom cabinets natural, but later decided to paint them a deep dark blue. (see below photos)

She did no renovations, no new cabinets or fancy appliances, no granite countertops or other bells and whistles you see in most kitchen makeovers today. She painted the existing cabinets, new cabinet hardware, new counters, lighting and WHITE appliances, yes you heard me, WHITE appliances!

And it is a stunning kitchen!

Check out the before and more afters below….

Could you be satisfied living and cooking in a kitchen like this??

Moroccan Inspired Bedroom

I love how casual yet exotic this bedroom is that I found on Pinterest from Decor Design Review.

I thought it would be fun to recreate!

We don’t all have beautiful tiled floors or interesting Moroccan architecture, but we can achieve the effect with the elements.

Most of the elements were easy to find at stores online or big box stores.

The tapestry used as a headboard can be hung over an existing headboard, over a rod or directly on the wall.

As for the keyhole design in the wall, this could be achieved by tracing the design on the wall. then painting the design a slightly darker paint color then the walls.

Add some simple white bedding and knick knacks and you’re on your way to Morocco!

Tribal coffee table Pier One $299, this one is larger to place in front of the chair.

Antigua Bay Wicker chair from Pier One on sale for $99.98, it’s not exactly like the other one but gives the same feeling and for this price!!

Moroccan Oxidize Brass Chandelier for $169, similar in style to the picture.

World Market Striped Rug for $399.

Magical Thinking Tapestry from Urban Outfitters for over the bed for $49.

Kitchen Loving 2.0

Humm, my last Kitchen Loving post had natural wood beams too!  Maybe a trend?

This kitchen is simple but more formal then the last kitchen with it’s minimal styling, brass hardware and natural wood beams overhead.

I love the pale blue-gray painted cabinets, soapstone counter tops, pearlized subway tile backsplash, wide plank wood floors and the brass orb pendants overhead.

It’s perfect for a family and for entertaining!

The house is a former community church in Mill Valley, CA by HSH Interiors as seen on Home Adore.

plants as art

Have you noticed how a room looks more alive with plants and greenery in it? I’ve always loved succulents and cactus for this reason!

On the West Coast succulents are everywhere, probably because they are so drought proof.

I love them for different reasons, not only do they add that layer of greenery, but they’re

nature’s artwork.

They come in so many color variations, the shapes are modern, organic, quirky and they can be grown in almost any vessel due to their low water needs.

There are so many ways to incorporate succulents into your decor…just use your brain.

My Mom used to make terrariums in the ’70’s, I loved watching the process.

These are mini cactus  but you could easily use succulents here.

Idea for propagating succulents, using up all those corks and decorating a small niche.
